Overview
The Kathmandu to Lhasa Tour is a journey to experience the beauty of the Tibetan landscape and to understand the rich culture of its people. This 9-day adventure starts from Kathmandu followed by Kerung, Tingri Shegar, and other beautiful places. And, the base camp of the world’s highest peak, Mt. Everest. It is followed by visits to Shigatse, Gyantse and finally to Lhasa.
Each year thousands of people take this tour to visit the likes of Mt. Kailash, Lake Namtso, and EBC among other important places. These numbers include several pilgrims visiting the area for its cultural importance.
During our Lhasa Tour from Kathmandu via Everest Base Camp, we explore the mystical Yamdrok Tso Lake. We also conquer a few high passes and visit popular Tibetan monasteries like Sakya, Tashilhunpo, Shalu, Sera and Rongbuk, the world’s highest monastery. All this while being surrounded by the magnetic allure of the Himalayas.
This package is an overland tour and you can also go with Kathmandu to Lhasa flight which takes around 1.5 hours. Meanwhile, the road distance is 1120km along the Sino-Nepal friendship highway. The overland tour takes about 25 hours to reach Lhasa. You will apply for the Tibet Visa from Kathmandu and then start off the journey. Before that, of course, you will get to take a tour of the culturally and naturally rich places in Kathmandu.

Itinerary
Day 01: Kathmandu Arrival.
Arrival in Kathmandu International Airport/ Meeting and greeting you by our tour leader & transfer to hotel/ Tour Briefing. Overnight at hotel in Kathmandu
Day 02: Sightseeing in Kathmandu and China Visa Apply day.
At morning, after your Breakfast at the hotel, we will head toward sightseeing tour in Kathmandu covering Pashupatinath Temple, Boudhanath, Swayambhunath and Durbar Square. In the meanwhile we will submit all your identification details at Chinese embassy in Kathmandu for a chinese group visa. Then will get back to hotel.
Day 03: Drive Kathmandu to Syaprubesi 2250m (117 km – 7 Hours)
Breakfast at the hotel and will drive to Syabrubesi following Trisuli river side of well paved road. After Betraoti, road condition in between is rough. But then after some time will reach at Syaprubesi which is in inside of Langtang national park. Its a beautiful place where we can roam around. Overnight at Syabrubesi.
Day 04: Drive to Kerung 2900m (43 km – 2 hours)
Today we will drive from Syaprubesi to Kerung and finally will reach at Nepal Tibet boarder and finish your immigration formalities. After that will reach Kerung which is the first town in Tibet. will take rest and overnight at Kerung.
Day 05: Drive Kerung – Xigatse.
After morning breakfast, we will start our drive and depart from Kerung to Xigatse. It’s around 480 km drive and during drive we will enjoy the sights of beautiful scenes. Xigatse known as Tibet’s second largest city, which lies near the union of the Nyang Chu and the Tsang Po, on the main route between Gyantse and West Tibet. It is the place of famous Tashilumpo Monastery. Overnight at Xigatse.
Day 06: Drive Xigatse – Gyantse.
While in Xigatse, we will visit Tashilumpo Monastery, one of the four great Gelug monasteries renowned as the seat of the Panchen Lama until his death in 1989. Then we will visit Tashilunpo Monastery including the Bazaar of Xigatse, Now we drive to the capital of the small kingdom in 15th century. Gyantse. Visit Gyantse Kumbum (the highest Chorten in Tibet) & Pelkor Chode. Monastery founded in 1418.The monastery is totally mesmerizing.
Day 07: Drive Gyantse – Lhasa.
Will drive to Lhasa, crossing the Karo-la Pass(5045m), we pass by the Yamdrok Tso, the turquoise lake & one of the four holy lakes in Tibet. Then after passing the Kamba-la Pass(4794m), we find ourselves close to the Lhasa Valley. After crossing the Brahmaputra River, we reach Lhasa, our final destination. Lhasa lies in the Kyichu river valley at 3,595m and is dominated by the magnificent Potala Palace, Sera Monastery and Norbulinka the summer palace. We will have the best sightseeing also visiting to Drepung monastery, Jokhang Temple and Barkhor street. The accompanied guide will reconfirm your onward airline ticket. Overnight at Lhasa.
Day 08: Sightseeing in Lhasa
Today’s tour will first bring you to the Potala Palace which is the winter palace of the Dalai lama. It was put to use since the 7th Century by the 33rd great king of Tibet. The most valuable collections of Potala Palace are the gilded burial stupas of former Dalai Lamas and meditation Cave of the 33rd great king of Tibet.
Then after lunch, tourists head to Jokhang temple which was founded by the 33rd great king of Tibet in the 7th century. Inside you can see the statue of Buddha Sakyamuni at the age of twelve. Outside, you can see pilgrims making prostrating in front of Jokhang Temple. Around the temple is Barkhor street, where you can do kora (a religious circle of a building or mountain) with pilgrims and locals, and explore the old market. Overnight at Hotel
Day 10: Departure.
Then our representative will transfer you to Gongar airport to fly back to your onward destination.
