Itinerary of Lhasa to Kailash Tour

Board your flight to Lhasa, Tibet. Upon arrival at Gonggar Airport- Lhasa, transfer to our hotel in Lhasa, approx 1 hrs drive. Spend the first day free to acclimatize with the altitude as Kathmandu is at 1300 m above sea level and Lhasa is at 3,650m.Spend the night at Hotel in Lhasa.

Breakfast and proceed sightseeing tour in Lhasa. Today, you will explore the popular Jokhang Temple, Barkhor Street and drive through the beautiful Potala Palace. Jokhang Temple comprises of three floors accompanied with an open roof and some beautiful chambers as well as chapels. The Barkhor Street is situated in the old side of Lhasa near Jokhang Temple and is a must see place while you are in Lhasa. Later visit the beautiful Potala Palace from outside. Witnessed as Dalai Lama’s winter palace Potala Palace is 400 metres building having some sloping stone walls. Overnight at hotel in Lhasa

Today we will head toward Shigatse via drive and in Shigatse, will visit Tashilhunpo monastery which is the seat of successive Panchen Lamas founded by the First Dalai Lama in 1447 has more than 57 halls and 3600 rooms. This monastery has a giant statue of Maitreya Buddha (Future Buddha) which is the largest of its kind in China. The statue is 26 meters (85 ft) tall and contains 279 kilograms of gold and 150,000 kilograms of brass and copper. It will be fun knowing those stories. Overnight at hotel in Shigatse

While driving through Pang La pass (5050 m) and will enjoy view of world’s high peaks of Everest, Makalu, Lhotse, Gyachung and Cho Oyu. In Rongbuk, will visit Rongbuk Monastery considered as the world’s highest Buddhist temple located at 4980 m above the sea level. It was built by a local lama in about 1899. In the frontispiece of the main hall there are the statues of Sakyamuni and Geru Rinpoche. And the mural paintings inside are especially worthy of appreciation. Walking forward from Rongbuk Monastery, you will see the famous Rongbuk Glacier Zone, which is the largest among all the hundreds of glaciers formed around the Mt. Everest. Overnight at guest house or local Tibetan tent in Rongbuk

Early morning, will enjoy Sunrise over Mount Everest. Then drive to Everest Base Camp (5200 meter/ 17060 feet) which is 4 km from Rongbuk. From Everest Base Camp (5250 meter) you can enjoy great views of high mountains like Cho Oyu (8201 meter), Shisapangma (8013 meter), Everest (8848 meter) and others. Then drive to Saga via Old Tingri. While driving you can see Mount Sishapangma, Langtang and also Annapurna range to the south. You pass through Pelkhu tso Lake (4600m), a cobalt blue lake and later crossing Brahmaputra river reach in Saga. Overnight at hotel.

It’s amazing to drive through unique Tibetan countryside that makes joyful all the time. En route you cross Mayum La Pass (5200m). This is first day to see Mount Kailash and Mansarovar. Reaching Mansarovar, you can have holy bath in the lake. Night halt will be at guest house of Chu Gompa which is in the shore of Mansarovar Lake. Overnight at guest house in Mansarovar

Today our journey will head to Darchen, base camp of Mount Kailash, Till that time you can do Puja (Worship), Havana, Meditation and also go for short Hiking to Chu Gompa (Ancient Buddhist Monastery nearby Mansarovar Lake). After reach to Darchen your guide will assist you if you need horse and porters for your following 3 days trekking around Mt.Kailash. Overnight at guest house in Darchen.

Morning drive to Shersung. We will start our trek from Shersung. After a short walk will reach Tarboche. Here is small temple called Yamdwar by Hindus. Near to this temple you see great flagpole. It is said that here Buddha came with 500 disciples for their supernatural power. Will continue our walk passing through grassy plain populated by nomads. En route you can view of west face of Mount Kailash. Then you reach at Dirapuk from where you will have good view of the north face of Mount Kailash. Overnight at guest house in Dirapuk.

Today is little bit harder to walk because to go up all the way to Dolmala passes (5723 meter/18776 feet). It is highest point in all this trip and then way down. From this trail you can have view of back side of mountain and many prayer flags at highest point. Also There’s a pool of great compassion at side of route which is called Gauri Kund by Hindus. In Zuthulpuk a temple and shrine is built around Milarepa’s cave where Milarepa, one of the most widely known Tibetan Saints, took dark retreat few years. He printed his hand and feet on the rock. After that overnight at guest house in Zuthulpuk.

Today is short and easy walking day. You walk through the grassy plain area along the river. The trekking end point is 4 km before Darchen. Once you reach there our vehicle will come to pick you up  and then drive back to Saga through the same previous road. Overnight at hotel/ guest house in Saga

The drive through the same road on day 8, It is about 450 km and takes 7 to 8 hour to reach Shigatse.Overnight at hotel in Shigatse.

Now, we will drive from Shigatse to Lhasa and the distance covers 270 km. Driving time: 4 hour 30 minutes. Elevation: 3658 meter/ 12001 feet. Overnight at hotel in Lhasa

Today our guide will transfer you to the airport in time for your flight to Kathmandu. Once you land in Kathmandu airport you will be picked by our vehicle and transfer to your hotel. Rest in Kathmandu/ Last minute shopping. Overnight at hotel in Kathmandu.

Our tour leader transfer you to the Kathmandu International Airport in time for your flight and help you get on board for your onward destinations.
